Late in August in Western Colorado, 2007, I took my BowTech Pro 38 on my first Elk hunt and first bow kill. I was 15. I picked a marshy spot to set up one morning, with plenty of bear and elk sign all around. I did some calling, then quieted down for about a half hour when a huge 6×6 bull suddenly rose up out of his bed only 100 yds. off. I was utterly amazed to see him because I hadn’t realized that anything had been bedded down so nearby. At 15 yds., he stopped and I released, hitting him in the lungs. He whirled and ran about 80 yds. before dropping. Approximately 1000 lbs., green-scored 359 3/8 P & Y.
