Stalking a kudu with a bow has to be one of the greatest challenges and adrenalin rushes. A kudu bull does not just hide behind or beside a bush, he gets completely inside it!! This trait makes taking a kudu via spot and stalk very difficult. Several times we got within 30 to 40 yards but had no clear shot. On the 5th or 6th stalk, the kudu bolted from the bush and for some reason stopped broadside at 35 yards. I drew and even had my finger on the release as I was settling down the pin when he swirled around and ran off!! This cat and mouse game continued for 4 or 5 more stalks. On the final stalk, he decided to completely lay down under a large bush. There were two small branches obscuring the front shoulder but the shot angle was actually behind the ribs and into the heart / lung area. I made a perfect shot and the arrow buried itself completely inside the kudu.
